Killingly, CT — A Killingly man was transported with minor injuries after the box truck he was a passenger in failed to stop at a railroad crossing and was struck by a passing train.
According to the Connecticut State Police, at approximately 8:45 AM on Friday, August 22nd, 2025, a 2015 Hino 268 box truck operated by a 54-year-old Danbury man was traveling westbound on North Street when it entered the North St/Schoonman Ave railroad crossing after the audible and flashing lights activated [the crossing is not equipped with a boom]. At the same time, a Providence & Worcester Railroad Train was traveling northbound on the Norwich Main Line when it struck the back right of the box truck. The collision caused the box truck to enter the shoulder of the railroad crossing and come to a rest on top of a stone wall.

The passenger in the box truck, a 64-year-old Killingly man, was transported to Day Kimball Hospital with minor injuries. The operator of the box truck and the four railroad employees onboard the train were uninjured. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Spill Team responded to the scene to mitigate a fuel leak that occurred from the box struck during the collision.
The operator of the box truck was issued an infraction for Failure to Stop at a Railroad Crossing (C.G.S. 14-249(a)).
