Putnam, CT — A 30-year-old Mississippi truck driver was apprehended after a multi-agency search on Thursday morning. The incident stemmed from warehouse receivers refusing to accept damaged goods.
According to the Connecticut State Police, at approximately 2:30 PM on Wednesday, August 20th, 2025, Troopers responded to 175 Park Rd — International Paper for reports of an active disturbance. Troopers arrived and discovered 30-year-old Jeremy Washington of Columbus, Mississippi, had become irate and threatened employees when they refused to accept his trailer with damaged goods. International Paper management opted not to press charges against Washington, but he was escorted from the property and formally trespassed.
At approximately 9:26 AM the following day, August 21st, 2025, Troopers were again dispatched to 175 Park Rd — International Paper for reports of Washington causing another disturbance on the property. It was reported that Washington walked onto the property and into the truck yard, where he got into a physical altercation with another driver. When Troopers arrived on the scene, they discovered Washington had left the scene in his tractor-trailer. A responding trooper spotted the vehicle traveling toward the special service district (downtown Putnam) but quickly lost sight of it. Troopers quickly located the tractor-trailer unoccupied in the Riverfront Commons parking lot.
Witnesses were able to provide a description of the man they believed got out of the truck. Based on the multi-jurisdiction incident and the suspect’s laundry list of prior charges, including firearms charges, State Police, Putnam Police, and Connecticut DEEP Environmental Conservation Police to begin a multi-agency search of the area.

Approximately 30 minutes into the search, a man matching the description was located behind The Stacks Professional Center by employees of a nearby business. Troopers detained the man, and it was determined he was not the individual Troopers were looking for, but instead an employee sent by the trucking company to retrieve the truck.
At approximately 11 AM, bystanders reported seeing a man matching the description exit the woods and walk into the Jade Garden parking lot. Washington was quickly apprehended at gunpoint by Putnam Police.
Jeremy Washington was taken into custody and held on a $5,000 Cash Surety Bond for the following charges:
- Criminal Trespassing 1st Degree (C.G.S 53a-107)
- 2x Breach of Peach 2nd Degree (C.G.S 53a-181)
- Interfering with an Officer (C.G.S 53a-167a)
- Operating a Commercial Vehicle without a CDL (C.G.S 14-44a)
