Putnam, CT – The Putnam man arrested last summer for brandishing a paintball gun on I-395 was again arrested in Putnam Sunday evening after fleeing a traffic stop within the Special Service District. He was wanted for failing to appear in court cases regarding his felony charges from the summer.
According to the Putnam Police at approximately 5:30 PM on Sunday, December 15th, 2024, a Putnam Police Officer spotted a vehicle traveling with a flat tire and initiated a traffic stop in the area of Woodstock Ave and Providence St. The officer made contact with the operator, who identified themselves a Angelo Martinez, before returning to his patrol car. When the officer went to reapproach the vehicle, Martinez exited his vehicle and fled on foot. It was determined Martinez has an active warrant for Failure to Appear.
Additional units and a K9 were requested from the Putnam Police Department and the Connecticut State Police Troop D. While the CSP K9 team began a K9 track in the area, additional troopers patrolled the area looking for Martinez and his other known vehicles. A short time later a patroling trooper spotted a vehicle associated with Martinez operated by a person matching his description traveling on School St. The trooper conducted a vehicle stop and apprehended Martinez without further incident.

24-year-old Angelo Martinez of Powhattan St, Putnam was arrested and charged with:
- Operating With Unsafe Tires (C.G.S. 14-98a)
- Reckless Driving (C.G.S 14-222)
- Interfering With an Officer (C.G.S 53a-167a)
- Failure to Appear 1st Degree (C.G.S 53a-172)
Last summer Martinez was arrested by the Connecticut State Police for brandishing a paintball gun, which looked like an assault rifle, on I-395. He has pending charges for the following crimes:
- Threatening in the 1st degree Armed/Displaying a Firearm (C.G.S. 53a-61aa(a)(3))
- Illegal Possession of a Weapon in a Motor Vehicle (C.G.S. 29-38)
- Failure to Take a Sobriety Test (C.G.S. 14-277b)
- Breach of Peace in the 2nd Degree (5 counts) (C.G.S. 53a-181)
Martinez is currently being held at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center on a $250,000 bond.
