Thompson/Putnam, CT – A 23-year-old Putnam man was arrested Sunday evening after driving aggressively and brandishing what appeared to be a firearm on I-395 South.
According to the Connecticut State Police, at approximately 6:06 PM on Friday, August 23rd, 2024, Troop D (Danielson) received numerous 911 calls reporting a red sedan driving aggressively, tailgating, and brandishing a firearm at other drivers on Interstate 395 South in Thompson and Putnam. A short time later additional 911 calls indicated the sedan had exited I-395 and again brandished the firearm, described as a black assault rifle, while at a red light on Route 44 in Putnam.
Troopers and Putnam Police Officers located the vehicle, a red Dodge Avenger, on Powhattan St in Putnam’s Special Service District. Units made contact with the alleged operator, identified as 23-year-old Angelo Raymond Martinez of Putnam. During the investigation units processed the vehicle as evidence, locating a black “AR-style” paintball gun.
Martinez was arrested and transported to Troop D where he is held on a $15,000 cash/surety bond. He is charged with:
- Threatening in the 1st degree Armed/Displaying a Firearm C.G.S. 53a-61aa(a)(3)
- Illegal Possession of a Weapon in a Motor Vehicle (C.G.S. 29-38)
- Operating Under The Influence of Alcohol/Drugs (C.G.S. 14-227b)
- Breach of Peace in the 2nd Degree (5 counts) (C.G.S. 53a-181)
