Killingly, CT – A Killingly man was fatally injured when he was struck by a vehicle attempting to cross Route 6 Thursday night.
At approximately 8:16 PM on Thursday, August 22nd, 2024, the Danielson Fire Department, along with mutual aid and the Connecticut State Police Troop D, were dispatched for a reported car versus pedestrian motor vehicle accident in the area of Providence Pike (Rt 6) and Maple St.
While units were en route Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communications (QVEC) requested a LIFE STAR helicopter based on DIAL criteria being met. Upon arrival, crews found a man unresponsive in the roadway and immediately began medical care. Based on the findings on the scene, LIFE STAR was canceled and the pedestrian was transported to Day Kimball Hospital at the ALS level where he later succumbed to his injuries. The vehicle that struck him was located a short distance up the road (still on the scene).
According to the Connecticut State Police, a red 2009 Subaru Impreza 2.5i, operated by a 20-year-old Brooklyn man, was traveling westbound on Route 6 when a 39-year-old Killingly man attempted to cross the sidewalk with no walk indicator. The operator of the Subaru did not see the man in the crosswalk and struck him with the front-right portion of his vehicle.
Route 6 West was shut down for several hours to facilitate the investigation.
