Thompson, CT – A man was seriously injured after he stepped into the roadway while fleeing a possible fire in a camper Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 2:24 PM on Sunday, December 15th, 2024, the Thompson Fire Engine Company (Thompson Hill), Putnam EMS, a QV Paramedic, and the Connecticut State Police were dispatched to the area of 34 Gawron Rd for a car versus pedestrian accident. While en route, dispatchers indicated the pedestrian may have been attempting to flee a fire within a camper parked near the roadway.

As Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communication (QVEC) dispatchers received more information from callers they determined the Dispatch Initiated Auto Launch (DIAL) criteria was met and requested a LIFE STAR air medical helicopter to the designated landing zone at Marianapolis Preparatory School. Members of the East Thompson Volunteer Fire Department responded to the landing zone to conduct landing operations.

The man was transported to UMass Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

Officials on the scene told Quiet Corner Alerts that there was no fire on arrival at the camper. While there were indications a flash fire may have occurred, there was not enough evidence immediately available to make a determination. The incident remains under investigation.

This is a developing incident, this article will be updated as additional information becomes available.
