Putnam, CT – A wanted felon led Troopers on a foot pursuit after he was involved in an attempted carjacking at Chucky’s Mobil.

At approximately 5:08 PM on Saturday, September 28th, 2024, Troopers assigned to Troop D were dispatched to Chucky’s Mobile, 644 Providence Pike, for reports of an altercation between two men in the parking lot.

On arrival, troopers determined the assailant was pushing the other man to keep him away from his car so other individuals could drive off with it. The assailant fled the area on foot before Troopers arrived.

As Troopers searched the area they spotted the suspect in the area of School St and Dewey St. Once he realized he’d been spotted, he ran into the woods. Troopers and Putnam Police Officers established a perimeter on Dewey St and School St as the suspect ran into a swamp. The perimeter was maintained as units verbally instructed the suspect out of the woods and awaited a CSP K9 team. Once the K9 arrived on the scene, the suspect became compliant and exited the woods where he was placed in custody.

Once in custody, it was determined that 25-year-old Deontae Alston of Brooklyn was on probation for a previous Felony and had several active warrants for Failure to Appear. He was placed under arrest and transported to Troop D for processing, during processing he became non-compliant and an altercation ensued. Alston is held on a $75,000 cash/surety bond as he awaits trial for the following charges:

  • Larceny of a motor vehicle – 1st offense (53a-119c)
  • Robbery 3rd degree (53a-136)
  • Assault of public safety, emergency medical, public transit or health care personnel (53a-167c)
  • Threatening 2 – physical threat (53a-62(a(1))
  • Interfering with an emergency call (53a-183b
  • Interference with an Officer/resisting(53a-1
  • Failure to comply with fingerprint requests (29-17)
  • Breach of peace 2nd degree (53a-181
  • Failure to Appear 2nd (53a-173*)
  • Violation of Probation (53a-32)

It is currently unclear if the other parties involved were later apprehended.
