Killingly, CT – Four teenagers were captured after fleeing from police in Rhode Island and crashing a stolen vehicle near the Budget Inn early Tuesday morning.
At approximately 3 AM on Tuesday, July 30th, 2024, Connecticut State Police were notified of an active pursuit of a stolen vehicle in Rhode Island. A Be On the Look Out (BOLO) was issued for a black Jeep, whose occupants were wanted for breaking into vehicles, traveling on Hartford Pike, Route 101, in Killingly. Minutes later the Connecticut State Police received reports the Jeep crashed into a tree in the area of the Budget Inn, 771 Hartford Pike, and multiple occupants had fled the area.
Troopers immediately converged on the scene and K9 Kash was deployed to track the individuals. Within approximately 30 minutes, 4 suspects were apprehended in the area of ALDI, 728 Hartford Pike, and Dominos, 1070 North Main St. Two of the suspects apprehended were transported to Day Kimball Hospital with K9 bites, one requiring a paramedic, the other two transported for evaluation.
The vehicle, a black 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee was previously stolen from Hebron, CT on Sunday, 07/28/24.
The 4 individuals were identified as a 19-year-old Norwich man, a 19-year-old Taftville man, an 18-year-old Manchester man, and an 18-year-old East Hartford man.
The 18-year-old East Hartford man, who was identified as the operator, was arrested and charged with the below charges. He was held a $15,000 bond.
- Interfering with Police (CGS 53a-167a)
- Reckless Driving (CGS 14-222)
- Evading Responsibility (CGS 14-225)
- Larceny of a Motor Vehicle (2nd Offense) (CGS 53a-119c*)
The other men were arrested and each was charged with the below charges. Each was held on a $10,000 bond.
- Interfering with Police (CGS 53a-167a)
Throughout the incident, and subsequent investigation, the Dayville Fire Company assisted in diverting traffic around the accident from Route 101 through Valley Rd to Dog Hill Rd.
Agencies that responded, or were dispatched, include the Connecticut State Police Troop D, Dayville Fire Company, KB Ambulance, KB Ambulance’s QV Medic, and Putnam EMS.
