Putnam, Conn. – Thurber Rd was shut down Monday morning after a tractor-trailer truck hits an electrical pole.

Just before 9 am on Monday, October 10th, the East Putnam Fire Department was dispatched for reports of a tractor-trailer versus pole Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) with wires down in the area of Providence Pike (Route 44) and Thurber Rd.

On arrival, crews found a pole broken in half on Thurber Rd. with power lines pulled from multiple poles up the roadway. It appears the driver of the SYSCO tractor-trailer hit the pole attempting to turn into the Matulaitis Nursing Home at 10 Thurber Rd.

The driver was uninjured in the accident and was able to drive away from the scene once given permission by the Connecticut State Police.

Thurber Rd is expected to remain closed for an extended duration as Eversource repairs the power infrastructure.

Agencies that responded to the incident included the East Putnam Fire Department, Putnam EMS, Connecticut State Police, and Eversource.
