Thompson, CT — A Thompson man was arrested Monday afternoon after police say he intentionally crashed his vehicle into his residence and attempted to set fire to a boat in the yard that did not belong to him.

According to the Connecticut State Police, at approximately 3:56 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026, troopers were dispatched to 185 Porter Plain Road for reports that an intoxicated driver had crashed into a residence.

Troopers arrived to find the sole occupant, a 64-year-old man who resides at the home, standing behind his vehicle, a 2015 GMC Sierra 2500, while being evaluated by EMS. According to police, the man admitted to consuming alcohol and intentionally crashing the vehicle into the residence. Troopers also stated he admitted to pouring gasoline onto another person’s boat, which was parked in the driveway, and attempting to set it on fire.

The man refused medical treatment at the scene and also refused to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs).

He was subsequently arrested and transported to Connecticut State Police Troop D before later being taken to Day Kimball Hospital on an Emergency Psychiatric Committal after reportedly making statements to troopers concerning his own health.

Following the committal, the man was held on a $20,000 bond and charged with:

  • Reckless Driving
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs
  • Refusal to Submit to Sobriety Testing
  • Reckless Burning
  • Criminal Mischief 1st Degree
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree
