Killingly, CT — A 42-year-old Foster, Rhode Island man died Wednesday evening after crashing his pickup truck into a Hartford Pike home, causing a partial structural collapse.
At approximately 10:20 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2026, the East Killingly Fire Department, Dayville Fire Company, KB Ambulance, and a Quinebaug Valley paramedic were dispatched to the area of 1348 Hartford Pike (Route 101) for reports of a vehicle versus building collision with a person trapped.
Upon arrival, an air medical helicopter was requested but was unavailable due to aviation weather conditions.
According to the Connecticut State Police, a 2023 GMC Sierra operated by a 42-year-old Foster, Rhode Island man was traveling westbound on Hartford Pike when it failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. The vehicle then left the roadway, striking multiple mailboxes, a street sign, and a residential home. The operator was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Connecticut State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad (CARS).

Due to the structural instability of the home following the collision, the Massachusetts District 7 Technical Rescue Team was requested with structural collapse resources to assist crews in safely searching the building.
According to radio traffic and emergency personnel on scene, because the request involved mutual aid across state lines, authorization had to be coordinated through emergency management channels. The Massachusetts team reportedly received standby orders approximately 20 minutes after the request was made through QVEC dispatch and, nearly two hours later, was advised they were authorized to deploy to Killingly.
However, upon arrival, the team was reportedly informed by a Connecticut Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS) representative that they did not have authorization to operate on scene and were subsequently released without deploying their resources.
The Connecticut Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Team arrived shortly afterward, searched the structure, and determined no occupants were inside the residence at the time of the collision.
