Following the terror attack on a Manchester, England synagogue earlier today, State and Local law enforcement are increasing their presence at local Synagogues to ensure the safety of the public.
As reported by the Associated Press, at approximately 9:38 AM BST on October 2, 2025, the second day of Yom Kippur, a 35-year-old British citizen of Syrian descent — who entered the U.K. as a young child and gained citizenship in 2006 — drove his car into a group outside a Manchester synagogue before exiting the vehicle and stabbing several people. Two were killed, and at least three others were injured, before the suspect was shot and killed by police.
In a statement, the Connecticut State Police said there is no indication of any threats within Connecticut. However, additional resources have been deployed to areas around synagogues, venues, and communities with significant Jewish populations. This response builds on the pre-established policing presence surrounding religious holidays. Connecticut relies on both the Connecticut Intelligence Center (CTIC) and the State Police Intelligence Operations Unit to monitor global and domestic events, ensuring that local Troopers and agencies are kept informed with real-time intelligence as it affects the public.
[Updated 10/3/25 8:55 AM] Local agencies, including the Putnam Police Department, had pre-scheduled additional cruiser details at area synagogues for Yom Kippur. These patrols were in place prior to any reported attacks and continued as the final night of the holiday took place.
