(Updated) Thompson Bank Robbed at Gunpoint; Suspect at Large

Thompson, CT – A flurry of State Police cruisers were seen throughout North Grosvenordale Thursday afternoon as they searched for a man who robbed bankHometown at gunpoint.

According to a 2 PM update from the Connecticut State Police, at 12:38 PM on Thursday, May 1st, 2025, Troopers assigned to Troop D were dispatched to [835 Riverside Dr – bankHometown] for a reported panic alarm.

*As on and off-duty Troopers flooded the area, additional information indicated the bank was robbed at gunpoint. Further investigation determined the suspect was a light-skinned male in his 30s, approximately 5’10”, average build, and brown eyes. The man wore a black Columbia zip-up sweatshirt with a lime green zipper, black fingerless gloves, black pants, and black shoes. The man brandished a black handgun and demanded money from the teller. He left with $3,200 and subsequently entered a smaller black SUV, similar to a Ford Edge, with Massachusetts plates that was parked at the Thompson Town Hall. The vehicle then fled North on Route 12.

Preliminary information indicated a K9 track was conducted in the area, and one person was detained, but further investigation did not result in the arrest of a suspect. State Police have confirmed no suspect has been arrested as of 2 PM.

The Thompson Public Schools were placed in a “soft lockdown”, keeping all students and staff inside the building, as police searched the area. Troopers were at the school during dismissal time out of an abundance of caution.
