Putnam, CT — Fire alarms alerted firefighters to a small fire in a second-floor apartment Sunday evening.
At approximately 4:30 PM on Sunday, April 13th, 2025, the Putnam Fire Department was dispatched to 58 Pomfret St – The Lofts at Cargill Falls Mill for a reported fire alarm activation.
Upon arrival, crews found the building evacuated and the second floor filled with smoke, prompting a 1st Alarm upgrade, which brought numerous mutual aid departments to the scene. An extinguished fire on a stovetop was quickly discovered, allowing mutual aid companies to be released shortly after dispatch.

Putnam Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately 45 minutes, ensuring the fire was extinguished and clearing smoke from the building.
One occupant was evaluated by Putnam EMS for possible smoke inhalation but refused transport to the hospital.
The official cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Putnam Fire Marshals Office.
