Killingly, CT – An investigation is underway into what appears to be a “Molotov cocktail” like device being used to cause a brush fire in Killingly early Sunday morning.
At approximately 3:19 AM on Sunday, November 17th, 2024, the South Killingly and Danielson Fire Departments were dispatched to the area of 162 Saw Mill Rd for a reported brush fire in front of a residence, under power lines, after a reported explosion. Crews arrived approximately 10 minutes later and found a 200’x60′ area burning. Crews stretched two hose lines to get the fire under control. Within approximately 20 minutes the fire was knocked down and crews transitioned to mop up (ensuring all hotspots were extinguished and the fire was well contained). One apparatus from the East Killingly Fire Department was called to the scene to assist with mopping up the fire.
While fire crews were on the scene, the Killingly Fire Marshal was informed there was an ongoing investigation regarding parties in the area, and the Connecticut State Police (CSP) Troop D was notified in case the incident was connected to the investigation.
According to the Connecticut State Police (CSP), Sunday morning at approximately 11:44 AM, Troopers assigned to Troop D responded to 162 Saw Mill Hill Rd to follow up on what was initially thought to be an electrically caused fire. The on-scene investigation determined that an “incendiary device in a bottle may have been tossed on the yard.”
The incident remains under investigation by the Killingly Fire Marshal’s Office, CSP Troop D, and the CSP Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit (FEIU).
