Pomfret, CT – A patrolling Trooper spotted a brush fire in the Mashamoquet Brook State Park Friday morning allowing fire crews to quickly stop it’s spread.
At approximately 10 AM on Friday, November 8th, 2024, a Connecticut State Trooper radioed in that he had spotted a 200×20 ft fire running uphill at the end of the Mashamoquet Brook State Park access road, 276 Mashamoquet Rd. The Pomfret Fire Department and DEEP were immediately dispatched.

Crews arrived on the scene and quickly knocked down the head (front) of the fire largely stopping the spread. Crews worked for approximately 2 hours on the steep hill ensuring the fire didn’t grown past the 1/2 acre it had already consumed.
The state is currently under a Red Flag Warning as well as statewide fire ban.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The cause in under investigation by the Pomfret Fire Marshal’s Office.
