Putnam, CT – An Order to Vacate was served to the Putnam Supermarket, 164 Providence St, Wednesday morning, October 9th, 2024, after the Putnam Fire Marshal’s Office discovered numerous violations of the Connecticut State Fire Code.
According to the Putnam Fire Marshal’s Office, violations of the State Fire Code (CGS 29-306) included:
- Blocked, insufficient, or impeded egress
- Failure to maintain fire protection systems
- Electrical hazards that pose an imminent fire hazard
These violations prompted the Putnam Fire Marshal’s Office to draft an Order to Vacate which was reviewed and upheld by the State Fire Marshal’s Office. This Order requires the store’s closure until life-safety hazards can be mitigated in compliance with the state fire code.
The Putnam Fire Marshal’s Office went on to explain, that a plan of correction has been established between the Fire Marshal, building owner, and business owner. Upon correcting the fire code violations, the Fire Marshal’s Officer will inspect the store before being reopened.
