Thompson, CT – A 31-year-old Thompson man was rushed to a trauma center after striking the side of a vehicle exiting I-395 Thursday night.
At approximately 10:18 PM on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024, members of the Thompson Fire Engine Company (Thompson Hill), Putnam EMS, and a Quinebaug Valley Paramedic were dispatched to Thompson Hill Rd for a car vs motorcycle accident with injuries and the motorcycle on fire.
Units arrived to find the motorcycle on fire but rapidly extinguished it with a fire extinguisher. As medical personnel evaluated the operator it became apparent he needed to receive treatment from a trauma center (the closest being UMass Memorial in Worcester), and a helicopter was requested to UMass Webster. Due to an approximate 20-minute travel time for the closest helicopter and the ability to rapidly transport from the scene, crews opted to transport the man via ground ambulance to UMass Worcester.
