Voluntown / Griswold, CT – A 55-year-old Jewett City man was fatally injured when he lost control of his motorcycle Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 5:22 PM on Thursday, July 25th, 2024, the Voluntown Vol. Fire Company, American Ambulance Service Paramedic, and Connecticut State Police (CSP) Troop E were dispatched for a one-motorcycle crash in the area of 330 Shetucket Turnpike in Voluntown.
According to the CSP, a gray 2023 Kawasaki KLR650 motorcycle, operated by a 55-year-old Jewett City man, was traveling westbound on Shetucket Turnpike. As the man negotiated the downhill left curve, he drove onto the dirt/gravel shoulder where he traveled a short distance in contact with the guardrail. The operator separated from the bike and was thrown west into the woods where he came to a rest down an embankment. The Kawasaki came to a final rest on the eastbound shoulder.
Units arrived on the scene to find the man down the embankment unresponsive and immediately started CPR. The man was rapidly transported to Constitution Field where a LIFE STAR helicopter was waiting. Due to the severity of his injuries, medical personnel decided to transport him via ground ambulance to William H. Backus Hospital, Norwich, with the LIFE STAR crew onboard. The man was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
