Sterling & Killingly, CT – A Danielson man was flown by LIFE STAR to Rhode Island Hospital with traumatic injuries after crashing his ATV Thursday evening.
At approximately 6:13 p.m. on Thursday, May 23rd, 2024, members of the Sterling and Oneco Fire Departments along with a Moosup Ambulance and the Connecticut State Police were called to the area of Sterling Rd and Hungry Hill Rd for an ATV accident.
While crews responded to the scene, dispatchers from Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communications (QVEC) determined that the information provided by the 911 caller met Dispatch Initiated Auto Launch (DIAL) criteria. The DIAL program allows departments and dispatch centers to have a pre-determined list of criteria based on incident type where, if met, dispatchers have the authority to request a medical helicopter before any personnel arrive on the scene. According to the Connecticut State Police, a 27-year-old Danielson man was traveling eastbound on Sterling Rd when he lost control and was ejected from his Kawasaki KSF450B in the area of Hungry Hill Rd.
The man was transported from the scene to the baseball field at Sterling Rd and Main St where a waiting LIFE STAR helicopter transported him to Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI.
The accident remains under investigation by the Connecticut State Police and any information should be directed to Troop D.
