Putnam, CT – A joint investigation by the Putnam Fire Marshal’s Office and the Putnam Police Department into the cause of last week’s fire inside the abandoned Metal Mast Marine building resulted in the arrest of a juvenile.

At approximately 11 a.m. on Monday, May 13th, 2024, Putnam Fire Department’s 1st alarm assignment was transmitted for reports of a building fire in an abandoned mill-style building at 55 Providence St, the former Metal Mast Marine. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire, thanks to a town employee’s quick action with a fire extinguisher before it could damage the structure. Read our original article here.

When Putnam Police arrived on the scene of the fire they found a juvenile male in the area of the fire building. Police immediately detained the juvenile pending further investigation.

According to the Putnam Fire Marshal’s Office, an origin and cause investigation revealed that multiple “non-communicating” fires occurred within the building leading investigators to determine the fire was incendiary in nature.

A criminal investigation was conducted by the Putnam Police Department leading to the arrest of the juvenile.
