Killingly, CT – For the second time in two months having a crew in the area or in quarters, is being attributed with saving a structure.

At approximately 1:10 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024, South Killingly’s 1st alarm assignment was struck for a reported garage fire at 629 South Frontage St.

The South Killingly and Danielson Fire Departments both staff 1-2 personnel during the day but today a full crew was at Danielson’s firehouse due to an earlier mutual aid chimney fire in East Brooklyn.

With a full crew in quarters, Danielson’s Engine Tanker 161 (ET161) arrived on the scene approximately 3 minutes after dispatch with Tower 161 (TW161) minutes behind. On arrival, crews found smoke showing from an attached garage of a single-story residence and immediately stretched an attack line from the driveway.

As crews made entry to the garage they discovered a vehicle on fire within. Firefighters were able to knock the fire down within approximately 5 minutes of the line going into operation. Due to rapidly getting water on the fire the damage to the building was minimal. Had the fire burned minutes longer the garage likely would have sustained significantly more damage.

One resident was evaluated on scene for possible smoke inhalation and refused transport.

In February South Killingly crews were clearing a medical call when they were dispatched for a structure fire a few roads from their location. Their early arrival allowed them to contain the fire in the basement of a home. Read our full article here.

Agencies that were on scene, or dispatched, included the South Killingly Fire Department, Danielson Fire Department, Sterling Fire Department, Moosup Fire Department, Plainfield Fire Company, KB Ambulance, and KB Ambulance’s QV Medic
