Killingly, CT – As many area volunteers sat down with their families for an Easter Sunday meal, they were called to respond to a reported structure fire in the South Killingly Fire District.

At approximately 4:05 p.m. on Sunday, March 31st, 2024, a 1st alarm assignment was struck for the South Killingly Fire Department to respond to a reported structure fire.

Upon the arrival of Engine 165 (E165), dark smoke was seen pouring from windows on all floors of the residence as well as the eaves. Neighbors indicated that no residents were home at the time of the fire allowing crews to immediately focus on extinguishing the fire. Once the bulk of the fire was knocked down on the 1st floor, the initial attack crew transitioned to searching the structure to ensure nobody was inside. During this time, additional crews were able to advance more attack lines into the building to continue fighting the fire on the other floors.

Crews remained on the scene for approximately two hours extinguishing all hotspots. Due to the construction of the building, a single hotspot was unable to be fully doused and crews were forced to respond later in the evening to re-extinguish a flare-up.

Agencies that responded included the South Killingly Fire Department, Danielson Fire Department, East Killingly Fire Department, Mortlake Fire Company, Moosup Fire Department, Attawaugan Fire Department, Foster Center Volunteer Fire Company, South Foster Volunteer Fire Company, KB Ambulance, and the Foster Police Department.
