Killingly, CT – Crime scene tape covered the entrance to Killingly Commons and half of the nearby Mobil gas station Saturday afternoon after a suspect fled state troopers and drew a weapon leading to the trooper shooting the suspect in the chest.

According to the Office of the Inspector General (OIG), at approximately 1:20 p.m. on Saturday, December 30th, 2023 a Connecticut State Police (CSP) Trooper spotted a Mercury Marquis at the Mobil gas station, 599 Hartford Pike, with the operator standing outside of it. The vehicle was associated with a Be On the Look Out (BOLO) out of the state of Rhode Island for a robbery that occurred in their jurisdiction. The vehicle was verified through the Connecticut registration number broadcast along with the BOLO.
The trooper approached the operator and asked for his license. The suspect stated he did not have it with him and began fleeing toward the rear of Taco Bell. The Trooper pursued on foot and discharged his TASER causing the fleeing suspect to fall. The suspect immediately regained his feet and fled again. As he reached the driveway to Taco Bell he was struck by a civilian’s pickup truck which was entering the lot. Now on the ground, the Trooper attempted to TASE him again. At this point, the suspect reached to his ankle where he drew a revolver. The trooper fired one shot, striking the man in the chest.

Emergency crews from the Dayville Fire Company, KB Ambulance, and KB Ambulance’s QV Medic responded to the scene to treat the man. He was transported to Day Kimbal Hospital where an air medical helicopter was requested. Due to the weather and other ongoing calls, no helicopter was available to transport the man to higher care. The man was transported by ground ambulance to UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, MA, where he is presently under treatment.
The Office of Inspector General, Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad, and the Windham Judicial District State’s Attorney’s Office are conducting the investigation.
In accordance with Quiet Corner Alerts policy, the names of the victims and suspects have been withheld.
