Putnam, CT — A 19-year-old Groton man was arrested Wednesday night after Connecticut State Police reportedly clocked him traveling 147 mph on Interstate 395 in Putnam, more than twice the posted speed limit.

At approximately 9:06 p.m. on October 7, a sergeant assigned to Troop D in Danielson was conducting traffic enforcement along I-395 southbound near Exit 46 when a BMW M3 was observed traveling at a high rate of speed.

According to State Police, the sergeant used a laser speed detection device to measure the vehicle traveling 147 mph in a posted 65 mph zone, 82 mph over the speed limit.

The sergeant subsequently caught up to the BMW and initiated a traffic stop. The driver complied, pulling over near Exit 43 in Danielson, approximately three exits south of where the vehicle was initially observed.

The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Troop D barracks, where he was charged with Reckless Driving under C.G.S. 14-222.

He was later released on a $1,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court on October 21.
