Thompson, CT — The sole resident of a Fabyan Road home was uninjured after an apparent chimney fire extended into the walls of their residence on Christmas Eve.
At approximately 5:51 PM on Tuesday, December 24, 2025, the Quinebaug Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported chimney fire at 573 Fabyan Road. The first officer arrived on the scene within approximately ten minutes and reported smoke showing from the eaves of the 1.5-story single-family home, indicating the fire had extended beyond the chimney. A first alarm was immediately struck, bringing in volunteers from Thompson, Woodstock, and Putnam, along with career firefighters from Dudley and Southbridge.

Crews quickly extinguished the fire within the wall near the chimney once inside the residence. A firefighter entered the attic crawlspace and confirmed there was no extension above the wall.

The resident safely exited the structure under his own power. Firefighters also located an uninjured cat inside the home.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Thompson Fire Marshal’s Office.
