Ashford/Putnam, CT — A 51-year-old Putnam man was fatally injured in an early morning crash that had the Route 44/Route 74 intersection closed for nearly five hours.

According to the Connecticut State Police, at approximately 4:07 AM on Thursday, December 18, 2025, a 2022 Subaru Outback was traveling eastbound on Nott Highway (Route 74) when it left the roadway and struck a DOT sign. The vehicle continued through the Route 44/Route 74 intersection, where it then entered the Dollar General parking lot, 5 Squaw Hollow Road. In the parking lot, the vehicle struck several safety barriers before rolling over. The lone operator, a 51-year-old Putnam man, was partially ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Nott Highway / Squaw Hollow Rd intersection was closed until approximately 10 AM.

The crash remains under investigation by the Connecticut State Police Troop C (Tolland). Anyone with information is asked to contact Troop C at 860-896-3200.
