Putnam, CT — A Putnam family awoke to their fire alarms sounding early Saturday morning as their Grove Street home filled with smoke. Thanks to working alarms, they were able to safely escape.
At approximately 3:06 AM on Saturday, November 8, 2025, the Putnam Fire Department was dispatched to 30 Grove St for a possible chimney fire. When the first unit arrived approximately 10 minutes later, it was quickly determined this wasn’t a chimney fire, but instead a fire elsewhere within the approximately 2800 sq ft single-family home.
Crews quickly determined the fire was in the floor and walls of a 1st-floor closet area, where they were able to contain it. The fire was knocked down within approximately 20 minutes, and crews remained on the scene for approximately 1 hour, ensuring there was no extension to the basement or second story.
The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Putnam Fire Marshal’s Office. No injuries were reported during the incident.
Agencies that responded included the Putnam Fire Department, East Putnam Fire Department, Putnam EMS, Attawaugan Fire Department, South Killingly Fire Department, Danielson Fire Department, and the Putnam Police Department.
