Voluntown, CT — Police say a motorcycle rider rode into a group of dirt bikes Sunday morning, seriously injuring himself and sending a dirt bike rider to the hospital with minor injuries.
According to the Connecticut State Police, at approximately 10:26 AM on Sunday, August 31, 2025, a blue 2016 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Ultra operated by a 58-year-old Sterling man was traveling South on Preston City Road. As the Harley-Davidson approached a group of dirt bikes also traveling south in the area of Church Street, it collided with an unregistered Orange 2017 Acerbis 150 XC-W (the model of bike was provided by the State Police; QCA is unable to verify the discrepancy in make/model) dirt bike operated by a 26-year-old Voluntown man. The Harley-Davidson continued South where it collided with an embankment.
The operator of the Harley-Davidson was transported to a nearby landing zone and flown by LIFESTAR to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. The operator of the dirt bike was transported by ambulance to Backus Hospital with minor injuries.
Connecticut State Police Troop E is asking anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Troop E Montville 860-848-6500.
