Putnam, CT — Route 44 was closed for several hours Tuesday afternoon following a dump truck rollover that sent one person to the hospital.

At approximately 11:34 AM on Tuesday, July 15th, 2025, the East Putnam Fire Department, Putnam EMS, and the Connecticut State Police Troop D were dispatched to a reported dump truck rollover in the area of 635 Putnam Pike (Route 44).

According to the East Putnam Fire Department, the first unit on the scene found a tri-axle dump truck, loaded with dirt, on its side with the driver trapped. Crews were quickly able to cut the windshield, enabling the operator to exit the cab. The sole occupant was transported to Day Kimball Hospital by Putnam EMS and a KB Ambulance Paramedic with non-life-threatening injuries.

While the cause of the collision is still under investigation by the Connecticut State Police, images from the scene show a skid mark beginning on the flat bed trailer, which was parked partially in the roadway, and continuing to the rolled-over dump truck.

Crews were unable to move the truck until the material had been offloaded and an environmental cleanup company arrived to remove the fuel. As of Tuesday at 4:45 pm, Route 44 remains closed while this process continues.
