Plainfield, CT— All lanes of Interstate 395 North in Plainfield were closed for hours Saturday morning as crews worked on a tractor-trailer fire and police cruiser collision.
At approximately 12:55 AM on Saturday, April 26th, 2025, the Plainfield Fire Department was dispatched to I-395 North in the area of Exit 29 for a tractor-trailer car carrier fire. Crews arrived to find the semi-cab and several vehicles on the trailer engulfed in flames, with a brush fire spreading. Due to the fire, a request was made for police to close the Northbound lanes.
According to the Plainfield Police Department, at approximately 2:08 AM, one cruiser was requested to I-395 by the Connecticut State Police to assist with the road closure. While blocking the exit with its emergency lights on, a Plainfield Police Cruiser was struck at high speed by a 2021 Hyundai Elantra, operated by a 21-year-old Dayville man. The officer was out of his cruiser at the time of the collision, allowing him to escape injury. The Dayville man was transported to an area hospital with injuries reported. The collision is under investigation by the Connecticut State Police Troop D.
The highway reopened at approximately 7 AM.
