Brooklyn, CT – Area firefighters responded to a brush fire that damaged a barn Tuesday afternoon.
At approximately 12:45 PM on Tuesday, March 11th, 2025, the Mortlake Fire Company, along with mutual aid from the East Brooklyn and Hampton Fire Departments, were dispatched to 400 Windham Rd for a reported brush fire in close proximity to a structure.
Crews arrived to find a ~100×100 brush fire encroaching on a barn. As the barn, with a heavy hay load inside, began to catch a 1st alarm structure fire assignment was requested. Crews were able to quickly keep the fire from spreading, containing the damage to the D (right from front) wall. It took nearly 2 hours and help from a DPW backhoe to ensure the large pile of hay was fully extinguished.

No injuries were reported during the incident.
