Brooklyn, CT – One person was transported to an area hospital after crashing into the Brooklyn Town Hall Monday evening. The driver was later charged with Operating Under The Influence (OUI). The Town Hall sustained damage to a basement wall but will remain operational.

At approximately 6:25 PM on Monday, January 20th, 2025, members of the Mortlake Fire Company, along with mutual aid from the East Brooklyn Fire Department and a QV Medic, were dispatched to 4 Wolf Den Rd, the Brooklyn Town Hall, for reports of a car into the building.

A Connecticut State Police (CSP) Trooper was responding to another call in the area when they were rerouted to the Town Hall. Arriving approximately 2 minutes after the dispatch, the trooper found the driver of the vehicle conscious and alert but trapped inside.

When the call was dispatched, members of the Mortlake Fire Company were just clearing the scene of a medical call and arrived within approximately 3 minutes of the dispatch. Rescue 490 was immediately requested to the scene for apparent entrapment but as crews further assessed the scene, they determined the operator could be freed and assisted from the vehicle without the need for rescue equipment.

Crews assess the structure’s integrity after removal of the vehicle

With the potential for structural damage, the Brooklyn Building Official was requested to the scene. He determined the vehicle struck a basement doorway leaving a large hole in the building but missed all vital structural elements allowing the building to remain operational.

The operator was transported to an area hospital with a paramedic onboard providing Advanced Life Support (ALS) treatment.

According to the Connecticut State Police, a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek, operated by a 63-year-old Brooklyn man, was traveling Northbound on Route 169 when he ran the red light at the intersection of Route 6. The operator then left the roadway striking the Brooklyn Town Hall. The operator was charged with the following charges:

  • Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs (C.G.S. 14-227a)
  • Failure to Maintain Proper Lane (C.G.S. 14-136)

Agencies that responded to the scene included the Mortlake Fire Company, East Brooklyn Fire Department, KB Ambulance Paramedic, and the Connecticut State Police Troop D.
