Thompson, CT – A resident was transported to UMass Webster early Thanksgiving morning after a fire tore through their home.
At approximately midnight on Thursday, November 28th, 2024, the East Thompson Volunteer Fire Department’s first alarm was struck for a reported structure fire at 854 Thompson Rd, with an occupant possibly still inside.
The first unit arrived on the scene within 5 minutes and reported heavy fire showing from the garage of a raised ranch with all occupants out of the structure. A 2nd alarm was rapidly ordered.

Attack lines were deployed from Engine 185, ET 284, and Engine 479 as crews fought heavy fire within the garage and attic. As crews began to get the garage fire under control, interior crews were working to gain access to the attic fire which was roaring above. As the roof weakened, the fire conditions significantly deteriorated prompting an evacuation order for all companies to exit the structure and temporarily transition to exterior operations.
After approximately 15 minutes of exterior operations, including using a deck gun, interior crews made another push, this time rapidly gaining ground on the fire. The bulk of the fire was knocked down at approximately 1 AM, 20 minutes after the evacuation order. Crews remained on the scene until approximately 4 AM extinguishing hotspots within the building.

Throughout the incident, crews utilize two tanker shuttles from a hydrant in Webster and the Thompson Speedway pond. Tankers dumped their water into a portable drop tank at the scene which was then fed into the attack engines.
One resident was transported to UMass Webster at the Advanced Life Support (ALS) level. Their current condition is not known.
The fire is under investigation by the Thompson Fire Marshal’s Officer with assistance from the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit (FEIU).
