At approximately 12:50 pm on Tuesday, June 12th, 2024, members of the Moosup Fire Department along with auto aid from Plainfield Fire Co. #1 were dispatched to 11 Harris Rd for reports of a motor home well involved.
On arrival, crews found the motor home well involved with a propane tank mid-BLEVE (where a contained and pressurized liquid reaches a temperature higher than its boiling point causing ignition and expansion) sending flames 20+ feet into the air. Firefighters attempted to shut the tank off but it likely had a secondary leak forcing the crews to cool it and wait for the propane to run out. Crews remained on the scene for over an hour overhauling and keeping the tank cool. An additional tanker was brought in from the South Killingly Fire Department due to the lack of hydrants in the area.
The incident is under investigation by the Plainfield Fire Marshal’s Office.
