Thompson, CT – A box truck carrying US Mail has rolled over on Thompson Hill Rd (Rt 200) blocking the roadway Monday morning.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 8th, 2024 the Community Fire Company and Putnam EMS (Thompson crew) were dispatched to the area of Thompson Hill Rd at Buckley Hill Rd for a reported mail truck rollover. Upon arrival, crews found a postal box truck on its side blocking the roadway with the driver self-extricated. The driver was evaluated by EMS on the scene and refused transport to the hospital.
It appears the operator of the box truck was traveling West on Thompson Hill Rd when the vehicle either slid on the slick roadway or the operator misjudged the corner causing the vehicle to leave the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then appeared to cross the roadway where it struck the metal guardrail, causing it to overturn.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) and Thompson Fire Police have closed the roadway at Buckley Hill Rd and Murolo Rd and are expected to keep it closed for multiple hours to allow for the vehicle to be removed.
The Thompson Postmaster is working to ensure the mail on board gets delivered to its destination with as little delay as possible.
The official cause of the accident is under investigation by the Connecticut State Police.
Agencies that responded to the scene included the Community Fire Company, Putnam EMS (Thompson Crew), Connecticut DOT, and the Connecticut State Police Troop D
