In preparation for the snowstorm which is expected to drop approximately 8″ of snow on the region, towns are implementing winter parking bans. The storm is expected to set in Saturday night and continue well into Sunday.
For many towns, this is the first time in nearly 2 years where the parking bans have been used but they play a vital role in storm cleanup. When plow drivers take to the roads to clear snow, if any vehicles are parked along the side they are forced to plow around them. This significantly slows down plow drivers and creates numerous safety hazards. Vehicles parked improperly along roadways during travel bans can be fined and towed. Towns are also reminding residents to remove all basketball hoops and other items that could hinder pows from the roadway.
Governor Ned Lamont, as well as representatives from the Connecticut State Police and Department of Transportation, have urged the public to stay off of the roadways for the duration of the storm to allow plow drivers to safely conduct snow removal operations. In the event of an emergency, you should call 911.
Heading into the storm you should make sure your phone stays charged and your emergency kit is prepared in case of an emergency. Use extra caution with heating appliances and ensure that all combustibles remain at least 3′ away from heat sources.
