Chaplin, CT — A 50-year-old Canterbury man with an active arrest warrant was taken into custody Tuesday morning following a multi-hour search. The search was initiated after he forced his way into a residence on Willimantic Road and then fled on foot.
According to the Connecticut State Police, Troopers were dispatched to a Willimantic Road (Route 6) address for reports of a break-in and disturbance. The resident reported that 50-year-old Travis Stimson of Canterbury had broken through the back door, which he had damaged in a previous unreported incident, and began a verbal argument with another occupant of the residence. Once Stimson discovered the resident had called 911, he left on foot.
While en route, Troopers learned Stimson had an active arrest warrant for a June 16, 2025, incident in Chaplin. That day, Troopers were dispatched for a vehicle located in the parking lot of a business with an unconscious driver in the operator’s seat. The operator reportedly had their foot on the brake with the vehicle still in drive. When troopers arrived, witnesses explained the male operator moved the vehicle behind a nearby building before fleeing on foot once he learned police had been called. When troopers searched the vehicle, they located drug paraphernalia in plain view and determined the vehicle was uninsured. Once Stimson was identified as the operator, they also determined his license was suspended, prompting the issuance of an arrest warrant.
At approximately 9:36 AM on August 5th after approximately four hours of searching with cruisers and K9 teams from the Connecticut State Police Troop D, C, and K, as well as the Connecticut DEEP Environmental Conservation Police, a witness spotted a man matching Stimson’s description in the backyard of a residence on North Windham Road in Windham approximately 3 miles from the original scene. Stimson was arrested without further incident. He is currently being held on a cumulative $75,000 bond for the following charges.
