Griswold, CT—I-395 South was closed for approximately five hours Saturday night as State Police conducted an accident reconstruction after a person was struck on the highway.

At approximately 8:39 PM on Saturday, April 5th, 2025, while Griswold firefighters were handling a house fire, Plainfield Firefighters were dispatched mutual aid to the area of the Norman Rd overpass on I-395 South for reports of a car vs. pedestrian accident.

According to the Connecticut State Police, a 27-year-old Worcester man was walking in the right lane after crashing his vehicle in the area. He was struck by a 50-year-old Jewett City woman operating a 2025 Kia Sportage in the right lane.

The Worcester man was transported at the ALS level (paramedic on board) to William W. Backus Hospital, Norwich. The State Police later clarified that his injuries ended up not being as serious as initially thought by personnel on the scene. No injuries were reported by the occupants of the Kia.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation diverted traffic off Exit 24 until the State Police investigation concluded at approximately 2 AM.

The State Police are asking anyone with information on the collision to call Trooper Timothy Wengloski #1032 at 860-848-6500.
