Plainfield, CT – Two men fled from State Police after tampering with a rest stop ATM Tuesday morning. They left behind approximately $52,000 in cash.

According to the Connecticut State Police (CSP), at approximately 11:11 AM on Tuesday, August 5th, 2024, Troop D Troopers responded to the I-395 Northbound rest area for reports of a man looking into vehicles and tampering with an ATM.

When Troopers arrived, they witnessed a man run across I-395 to the Southbound rest area where a black BMW SUV with Pennsylvania plates was waiting. Troopers caught up to the vehicle and observed a backpack thrown from the vehicle. The operator refused to stop the vehicle and Troopers did not pursue it as it continued South at high speeds. When the backpack was recovered, Troopers discovered approximately $52,000 in $20 bills, a mobile hotspot, and an iPhone.

The second man was dressed in a white Nike short-sleeve shirt and tan pants. Both men also wore white shoes, black hats, sunglasses, and a tan “fanny pack” waist bag.
