Killingly, CT – Firefighters responded to a basement fire in a single-family residence Thursday morning where one person was fatally injured.

At approximately 6:15 AM on Thursday, June 27th, 2024, a 1st alarm was struck for the Danielson Fire Department and mutual aid companies for a reported structure fire at 20 Robertson Ave. While en route, Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communications (QVEC) indicated callers were reporting heavy smoke coming from the windows of a residence and neighbors were attempting to break windows to check the residence for an occupant they believed to be inside.

Crews arrived to find smoke showing from the windows and eaves prompting an immediate 2nd Alarm. Firefighters forced their way into the front door to perform a primary search of the home. During the search, crews found a large hole in the 1st floor and determined the fire was burning in the basement.

To gain access to the fire, crews used hand tools to force open a bulkhead door on the C (rear from the road) side of the house. Firefighters were able to quickly knock the fire down with a single handline.
