Lisbon, CT – Two riders of a motorcycle were fatally injured Tuesday afternoon after a crash occurred at the intersection of Kimball Rd and North Burnham Highway (Rt 169).
According to the Connecticut State Police (CSP), at approximately 5:03 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4th, 2024, a 2023 Harley Davidson Road Glide ST motorcycle, operated by a 32-year-old Jewett City man, was traveling southbound on North Burnham Highway. At the same time a 2014 white Volkswagen Passat SE, operated by a 45-year-old Canterbury man, was traveling Northbound on North Burnham Highway and made a left turn to travel North on Kimball Rd.
The motorcycle struck the front right corner of Passat, ejecting the 32-year-old man and his 33-year-old passenger, who resided at the same address. Emergency dispatchers from Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communications (QVEC) utilized Dispatch Initiated Auto Launch (DIAL) procedures to request a helicopter when they received the initial 911 calls but upon the fire department’s arrival, both riders were pronounced deceased on the scene and the LIFESTAR helicopter was canceled.
The Canterbury man was evaluated on the scene and declined medical treatment.
Route 169 was closed by the CT DOT for approximately 6 hours Tuesday night to allow Troopers to investigate the incident.
The incident remains under investigation by the Connecticut State Police. Anyone who witnessed the collision, has video recording, or has information regarding the investigation is asked to contact Trooper Christopher Brett #691 at 860-848-6540.
