Second Suspect from Ross Rd Crash Captured After Going Over Blain Rd Dam

Thompson & Killingly, CT – The second suspect in this weekend’s crash on Ross Rd, Killingly, CT, was apprehended Saturday morning after he fled into the French River where he traveled over the Blain Rd dam.

At approximately 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 25th, 2024, Connecticut State Police (CSP) Troopers stopped a 2015 Ford Fusion traveling on I-395 for operating erratically. The operator provided a false name and fled the traffic stop in the vehicle. The vehicle entered Rt-695 and exited onto Ross Rd (Exit 1) where it subsequently traveled through a metal guard rail, went airborne, struck a tree, and traveled down a hill into the woods. Through an investigation after the crash, the second suspect was identified as a 29-year-old man from Bronx, NY and troopers determined he had a protective order prohibiting him from being with the other occupant. Troopers also discovered he had an active extraditable warrant for his arrest out of New York for violating parole.

At approximately 6 a.m. on Sunday, May 26th, 2024, Troop D received multiple calls from the public describing a male matching the suspect’s description in the area of Dunkin’ on Riverside Dr, Thompson. Troopers responded to the area and confirmed it was the suspect they had been looking for. When the man spotted troopers he fled into the French River, in the area of Dollar General, and began traveling downriver. Troopers located him perched on the edge of the Blain Rd dam and began communicating with him. The man chose to travel over the dam, down the ~10 ft waterfall, and continue downriver. With the assistance of a CSP K9 team, troopers were able to locate the man in the water behind 500 Riverside and talk him out of the river into custody.

The suspect is held on a $100,000 cash bond for his Extradition Arrest Without A Warrant (CT 54-170).

During the incident members of the Community Fire Company were requested to assist with their boat but were canceled when the man exited the water on his own. Putnam EMS responded to evaluate the man once he was in police custody.
