Woodstock, CT – State Police Tactical Units are working towards a peaceful resolution after armed men entered a home on Woodstock Road Wednesday morning.
At approximately 11:58 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15th, 2024, Connecticut State Police (CSP) Troop D received a call reporting a burglary in progress on 287 Woodstock Rd. A witness indicated unknown men, carrying baseball bats entered the home.
According to the Connecticut State Police, an unknown number of men entered the home armed with baseball bats, likely in an attempt to burglarize the home. The female resident was home at the time of the burglary but has since made it out of the residence safely. It is unclear if there are any other residents in the home at the time of this article.
Due to the hazards on the scene the CSP Tactical Unit, Drone Unit, and Negotiation Team were brought in to assist. These teams utilize specialized equipment such as armored vehicles, long rifles, and other equipment not carried by patrol Troopers.
At 3:47 p.m., after nearly 4 hours on the scene, one male suspect exited the home and surrendered as orders were given by the tactical unit on loud speakers. The suspect is cooperating with the State Police.
At least 2 suspects are still inside the home and State Police tell us “All efforts are being made for a peaceful resolution, to get the other individuals who are in the residence to come out peacefully.” The incident is believed to be contained to the residence.
Several homes surrounding the incident address have been evacuated as a precaution. Woodstock Rd will remain closed until the incident reaches a resolution and State Police are urging all residents to avoid the area.
Nearly 10 hours after the standoff began, the incident came to a conclusion when the second suspect jumped out a window and ran for the wood-line. A brief foot pursuit ensued with tactical units before the man was placed in custody.
With two suspects in custody state police entered the residence and determined there were no other suspects.
According to state police the suspects are a 39-year-old man residing on Killingly Ave, Putnam and a 37-year-old man residing on Tolland Turnpike, Willington. Both men are being held on a $100,000 cash/surety bond and are charged with the following charges:
- Home Invasion
- Burglary 1st Degree
- Larceny of a Motor Vehicle- 1st Offense
- Interfering with an Officer/Resisting Arrest
The victim has been identified as a 38-year-old woman residing in the upstairs apartment of 287 Woodstock Rd.
State Police have also clarified, when they arrived on the scene the victim indicated there were no other occupants inside the residence. Upon further questioning she indicated there were three other occupants inside armed with baseball bats and handguns.
During the incident the Muddy Brook Fire Department, Woodstock EMS and a KB Ambulance paramedic provided road closure and medical support. The victim and suspects were evaluated on the scene but did not require transport to the hospital.
