Chaplin, CT – A 79-year-old Mansfield woman was fatally injured Saturday morning when the vehicle she was a passenger in was involved in a serious collision on Route 6.

At approximately 9:03 a.m. on Saturday, April 20th, 2024, the Chaplin Volunteer Fire Department and Hampton Fire Company, along with EMS, were dispatched to the area of Willimantic Rd (Route 6) and Mansure Rd for a reported multi-vehicle rollover vehicle accident.

When fire department units arrived on the scene they found two vehicles off the roadway with one patient unresponsive.

According to the Connecticut State Police, a 2020 Nissan Murano SI, operated by a 77-year-old Mansfield man, was traveling Eastbound when it crossed into the Westbound lane. The vehicle collided with a 2008 Nissan Maxima, operated by a 40-year-old Windham man. During the collision, the front-seat passenger of the Nissan Murano, an 80-year-old Manfield woman residing at the same residence as the operator, was fatally injured.

The operators of both vehicles were transported to area hospitals with suspected minor injuries.

The Connecticut State Police is asking that anyone who witnessed the accident, or either vehicle driving before the accident, contact Trooper Barile #1172 at Troop D 860-779-4900.

Agencies that responded, or were dispatched, include the Chaplin Volunteer Fire Department, Hampton Fire Company, Willimantic Ambulance, Windham Hospital Paramedic, North Windham Fire Department, and the Connecticut State Police.
