Oxford, Dudley, Auburn, Warren, Southbridge, and Worcester, MA – Officers from multiple towns worked through the night investigating the circumstances that led to a 21-year-old Dudley man being dropped off at a UMass emergency room with a gunshot wound to the neck Saturday evening.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 9th, 2024, a Dudley man was dropped off at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus (Lake Ave, Worcester) with a gunshot wound to the neck. The man told officers he had been involved in a shooting near the Jasmine Asian Restaurant (711 Southbridge St, Auburn). Auburn police were alerted to the incident and a Be On the Look Out (BOLO) was broadcast to area towns for the vehicle that dropped him off and the vehicle he was believed to be driving before the shooting.

The Auburn Police Department explained in a Facebook post that following a thorough investigation, it was determined that no incident occurred in Auburn and there was no threat to the public.

Approximately an hour after the initial BOLO, the vehicle that had been seen dropping the victim off was located in the UMass parking garage, leaving only the victim’s vehicle unaccounted for.

At approximately 8:40 p.m. the victim’s vehicle was located at a Shell gas station (138 Southbridge Rd, Oxford). As Oxford Police officers began an investigation surrounding the vehicle, it was determined that the shooting had occurred in the area of RJH Concrete (Boulder Pkwy, Oxford). Oxford Police took over the incident and worked through the night to process multiple scenes.

At approximately 3:40 a.m. on Sunday, March 10th, another BOLO was broadcast for the suspect, a 29-year-old Southbridge man, and a vehicle associated with him. According to the Oxford Police Department, it was determined that the suspect was working with a group in the area of RJH Concrete when a confrontation began between himself, the victim, and a group of the victim’s friends. The argument turned physical and the suspect shot the victim. The victim was able to drive off and seek medical treatment. Oxford Police stressed that all parties involved knew each other and that the incident was an isolated event. There is no ongoing threat to the public.

A short time after the BOLO was issued, Warren Police Officers located the suspect’s vehicle parked at the residence of a relative in Warren. With assistance from the Massachusetts State Police and West Brookfield Police, the suspect and his relative were placed in custody.

The relative was arrested on separate charges by the Warren Police Department.

The suspect was transported to the Oxford Police Department where he was booked on the following charges: A&B With a Firearm and Assault To Murder. He was held on a $50,000 cash bail and arraigned at Dudley District Court on Monday, March 11th, 2024.

The victim was treated for his injuries and is being released.
