Hampton, Conn. – A Wauregan man has passed away after striking another vehicle while operating a motorcycle on Route 6 in Hampton on Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 2:50 p.m. on Thursday, October 19th, 2023, the Hampton Fire Company was dispatched to the area of 454 Providence Turnpike (Route 6) for reports of a motorcycle accident with criteria met for Dispatcher Initiated Auto Launch (D.I.A.L.) of an air medical helicopter.
As units arrived on the scene they found a patient with severe injuries requiring CPR to begin on the scene. A landing zone was established in a field across from the Hampton Fire Company (190 W Old Rte 6) for LIFE STAR. While en route LIFE STAR was canceled by medical personnel on the scene who opted to transport by ground to Windham Hospital due to the severity of the victim’s injuries. The Motorcyclist was later pronounced deceased at Windham Hospital.
Following an investigation, the Connecticut State Police (CSP) determined that a 65-year-old Wauregan man was traveling eastbound, on a 1994 Honda PC800 motorcycle. At the same time a 22-year-old Hampton woman, operating a 2009 Nissan Versa, was attempting to make a left turn from the VIP On 6 auto shop (441 Providence Turnpike) onto Route 6 westbound. The motorcyclist struck the turning vehicle causing disabling damage to both vehicles and serious injury to the motorcyclist. The operator of the Versa was uninjured in the incident.
Route 6 was shut down between Drain St and Cherry Hill Rd for multiple hours as CSP investigated the accident. This closure led to a later rollover vehicle accident which resulted in minor injuries
The collision remains under investigation by the State Police.
