Plainfield, CT — Intelligence reports enabled a proactive police response to planned street takeovers in the Plainfield area Sunday evening.
According to the Plainfield Police Department, at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2026, the [Connecticut Intelligence Center (CTIC)] received indications of multiple street takeovers planned for the Plainfield area.
Based on that intelligence, the Plainfield Police Department deployed additional officers and requested mutual aid from Connecticut State Police Troop D. The department stated the goal was to “ensure public safety, maintain traffic flow, and prevent dangerous or unlawful activity from occurring on public roadways.”
At approximately 7 p.m., Plainfield Police received reports that a group of approximately 20 individuals, many wearing face coverings, was surrounding a lone individual at the Shell gas station on Lathrop Road. As officers arrived, the crowd began dispersing onto I-395 northbound and was not located. Police confirmed that the victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault.
The department stated, “As a result of this coordinated response, officers were able to identify gathering locations, monitor activity, and disperse vehicles before any streets were physically taken over or blocked.”

The group was also reported to have gathered in a parking lot within Sterling’s industrial park and had reportedly planned to move toward Killingly Commons, though they do not appear to have reached Killingly. Connecticut State Police and the Killingly Police Department maintained an increased presence in the Killingly Commons area throughout the evening.
Police noted that these events are often organized as pop-up gatherings, with locations shared directly among participants.
In 2025, Connecticut took steps to address the growing issue of street takeovers, with Governor Ned Lamont signing legislation that increases penalties for those who organize, participate in, or even spectate these events, while also providing law enforcement with additional tools to prevent and disrupt them.
The assault and attempted takeovers remain under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the assault, has video footage, or has information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the Plainfield Police Department at 860-564-0804 or anonymously at 860-564-7065.
