Pomfret/Brooklyn, CT — A 39-year-old Brooklyn man was fatally injured after colliding with a tree while driving on Route 44 early Wednesday morning.

At approximately 1:11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, the Pomfret Fire Department, KB Ambulance, a Quinebaug Valley paramedic, and the Connecticut State Police were dispatched to a reported motor vehicle accident in the area of Putnam Road (Route 44) and Allen Road.

Minutes later, Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communications dispatchers received reports that the lone occupant was entrapped with apparent serious injuries. A LIFESTAR helicopter and Putnam Fire Department’s Squad 478 were requested to the scene.

Emergency crews arrived within approximately ten minutes and immediately identified fatal injuries. The LIFESTAR helicopter was subsequently canceled.

According to the Connecticut State Police, a 2022 Toyota GR86 operated by a 39-year-old Brooklyn man was traveling eastbound on Route 44 when the operator failed to navigate a curve, left the roadway, and struck a tree. The operator was pronounced deceased at the scene.
