Pomfret, CT — Two motorcycle riders were airlifted Saturday afternoon after a pile-up with a turning car.

According to the Connecticut State Police, at approximately 4:09 PM on Saturday, August 30th, 2025, a 2008 Mercedes C-Class operated by a 22-year-old Auburn man was traveling westbound on Route 101 (Killingly Road) with a group of motorcycles traveling behind it. The Mercedes slowed in the area of Wrights Crossing Road to make a left turn into a driveway when it was rear-ended by a Harley-Davidson Electra Glide operated by a 60-year-old Norwich man. The second motorcycle, another Harley-Davidson Electra Glide operated by a 57-year-old Westbrook man, collided with the first bike. Both riders were seriously injured.

While Pomfret Firefighters operated at the scene of the collision, Mortlake Fire Company was requested to establish a landing zone behind Bakers Dozen, 24 Mashamoquet Rd, for two helicopters.

The Westbrook man was transported by KB Ambulance to the nearby landing zone, where care was transferred to a waiting LIFESTAR helicopter crew. He was further transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

Due to a variety of factors on the scene, including a 24-minute response time for the second helicopter and the patient’s condition, the second helicopter was canceled, and the Norwich man was transported to Day Kimball Hospital to be stabilized before later being flown by LifeFlight to UMass Memorial Hospital.

The operator of the Mercedes was uninjured, but their passenger, a 19-year-old Worcester woman, was transported to Day Kimball Hospital for evaluation.

Route 101 remained closed for several hours as Troopers conducted their investigation, which remains active.
